Getting There...

Ben's room is slowly but surely coming together!

Inspiration for the nursery came from a bunch of fabric I bought about a few years ago. I wandered down to my favorite quilt shop one Saturday afternoon and found a new line I absolutely fell in love with. Clearly for a little boy's room, it just popped with the CUTEST bright colors. Stripes, spots, plaids, cars, trucks, and motorcycles... Having no idea what I'd do with it, I bought several yards. All I knew was that I had to have it! (Tim would interject something here about "wants" and "needs," so it's a good thing he's not reading over my shoulder!)

I started a quilt top with the fabric I'd purchased. Several of my friends were pregnant at the time, so I waited to see who would have a boy and figured I'd gift the quilt to a friend. They all had girls. And I had a quilt top. I folded up the quilt and put it on the shelf and out of my mind... until November 17th of this past year. As soon as we found out we were having a boy, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with the nursery. Of course, if I was going to do a whole nursery, I needed more fabric! As luck would have it (my luck, anyway) the charming little quilt shop I mentioned before was all out of the fabric I was after, so I began scouring the internet (hello, etsy!) and bought a yard here and a yard there.

Tim has been a real peach through this process and has really indulged me (especially since I'm not technically supposed to be painting. Tim did all the preliminary painting and helped me hang the textured beadboard wallpaper I found on a blog.

Then, he painted the beadboard wallpaper.

And when that dried, he hung a chair rail.

He bought a new nail gun for the occasion, which really eased the pain of him taking on this project, I think. This was the first chair rail he'd ever done, and it looks great! Tim Taylor has nothing on Tim Bergeron.

One night, Tim was talking to my belly and he said, "Your room is looking really good, buddy! But, I'm not really doing it for you, I'm doing it for your mom. You don't care what your room looks like, do you? You don't care, and you'll never remember it. Nurseries are really about mommies."

He's right. And he's a really good sport.

After the walls were prepped, I began painting the mural.

Tim assembled the crib and the glider.

My Mom has been a huge help, too! My sewing skills are still beginner (at best) so Mom was on call to assist with curtains, bumper pads, and the crib skirt.

Just look at this cute fabric:

It's all beginning to come together!

I like this little guy:

The "to-do" list lives on. We need to find and purchase a dresser, and I have to finish the quilt (which I'll hang on the wall), among other things. Still, we're getting closer every day. I can't wait for Ben to see his room (in less than 9 weeks, hopefully)! I think he'll like his room even more than I do.
